40 Days for Life

40 Days for Life tracks Biblical history, where God used 40-day periods to transform individuals, communities, and the entire world. From Noah in the flood to Moses on the mountain to the disciples after Christ’s resurrection, it is clear that God sees the transformative value of His people accepting and meeting a 40-day challenge.

On Sept. 27, that challenge comes to communities all around the world in the form of 40 Days for Life, a focused pro-life campaign with a vision to access God’s power through prayer, fasting, and peaceful vigil to end abortion.

Everyone can take part in this campaign—and the first step is prayer, which is at the heart of 40 Days for Life. Pray in groups, pray in church, or pray on your own for an end to abortion, for those experiencing the pain of a past abortion, and for our leaders.

People of faith are also invited to fast throughout 40 Days for Life. Whether you fast from certain foods, from certain habits, or from apathy and indifference, use this experience as an opportunity to remove whatever separates you from God.

The most visible aspect of 40 Days for Life is a focused, 40-day, non-stop, round-the-clock prayer vigil outside a single Planned Parenthood center or other abortion facility in your community. In the San Diego area, there are several 40 Days for Life vigils are planned. Additionally, there are campaigns taking place in many neighboring cities. About three dozen campaigns will take place across California!

The mission of 40 Days for Life is to bring together the body of Christ in a spirit of unity during a focused 40 day campaign of prayer, fasting, and peaceful activism, with the purpose of repentance, to seek God’s favor to turn hearts and minds from a culture of death to a culture of life, thus bringing an end to abortion. And it works: since 2007, more than 10,330 documented lives have been saved through this campaign.

Please join us in 40 Days for Life across the Diocese of San Diego:

Sept. 27 – Opening prayer vigil for 40 Days for Life.  There will be a candlelight Rosary Procession with a priest from St. Anne’s Catholic Church to mark the opening of 40 Days for Life at Family Planning Associates on Miramar Road.  We meet near the corner of Kenamar Drive and Carroll Road at 6:15 pm.  After a short refection by the priest, we will process to the front of the clinic along Miramar Road (7340 Miramar Road), continue praying, then return back to the starting place by around 7:30 pm.  All are welcome.

Sept. 28 through Nov. 5 – 40 Days for Life, a continuous prayer vigil for 40 days in front of 4 abortion centers in San Diego County.  This is a peaceful, legal event that is occurring at the same time in over 270 cities in 25 countries throughout the world.  More than 11,000 babies have been saved during 40 Days for Life since it started in 2007.  The four locations are San Diego, El Cajon, Chula Vista, and Vista.
